The Role
We’re looking for a senior backend engineer to help scale the core systems that move every Loko order — from placement and dispatch to settlement. You’ll own the design and reliability of services that merchants, riders, and customers depend on in real time.
You’ll work closely with founders and other senior engineers on the decisions that shape our architecture for the next few years. Expect high autonomy, fast feedback, and direct visibility from day one.
What You'll Work On
Examples of projects you might lead or contribute to:
- Dispatch engine: the service that assigns orders to riders under real network and traffic conditions
- Payments platform: dual-currency wallets, payouts, reconciliation, and mobile-money integrations
- Order pipeline: hardening state machines, idempotency, and retry behaviour end-to-end
- Platform reliability: observability, on-call tooling, and graceful degradation strategies
You Might Be a Fit If You
- Have 5+ years of backend experience shipping production systems at scale
- Are strong with at least one of Node.js/TypeScript, Go, or Python, plus SQL (Postgres)
- Have designed services with real reliability constraints — retries, idempotency, rate limits
- Enjoy owning problems end-to-end rather than waiting for specs
- Want to raise the engineering bar for a small, ambitious team
